The 10th anniversary of the Doris Duke Artist Awards program was an unforgettable occasion. We worked with the Doris Duke Foundation to develop a radical activation and run of show that combined live performance, video, and a cocktail reception with a twist.
Since 2012, the Doris Duke Foundation has been helping artists thrive with the largest national prize dedicated to individual performers in contemporary dance, jazz, and theater. To mark the Artist Awards’ 10th anniversary, we created a new brand identity and helped deliver its first-ever awards show.
What better way to celebrate the impact of the incredible Doris Duke’s Foundation’s awards program than to bring back six past recipients to deliver a series of masterful performances? We brought guests behind the scenes, too, with a soul-stirring video featuring sculptor Tarik Currimbhoy, creator of the stunning award statuettes. The night culminated in a surprise announcement that the Doris Duke Foundation would be doubling the size of its Awards – with immediate effect.
Following the show, guests enjoyed colorful cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the atrium, where 129 powerful portraits hung, showcasing the grant recipients. QR codes allowed attendees to interact and learn more about their work. To be more sustainable, swag bags were swapped out for photo booths, where guests could score dynamic GIFs fit for social sharing.The Doris Duke Artist Awards 10th Anniversary Celebration drew over 423 attendees toJazz at Lincoln Center, including 70 former grant recipients. It received widespread media coverage – and the event won three awards of its own.
