For the 2012 London Olympic Ceremonies, TAIT built 320 hospital beds with battery-operated LED pillows and duvets for a glowing choreographed performance.
Entirely waterproof, the duvets and pillows encased 20km of LED strips. In the evening, they formed a dazzling illuminated visual display of shapes and letters.
With sustainability in mind and as a key consideration for philanthropy, TAIT designed and built the LED beds according to hospital specifications to ensure they could be reused. After the event, TAIT and a group of volunteers stripped the electrics from all 320 beds. The beds were packed into eight sea containers, generously donated by Rock-It Cargo, for onward travel to a new home. TAIT partnered with Project Cure and Just a Bunch of Roadies to place all 320 beds in Tunisian hospitals where they continue to save and improve lives for years.
