When Jerry Herman’s beloved classic, “Hello Dolly” returned to London’s West End at The Palladium in the Summer of 2024, the production partnered with TAIT to provide automation for 17 axes of motion. The Palladium has been a frequent venue for TAIT-automated shows over many years, including the original London production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, a show that saw TAIT revive our flying-car magic for the 2024 UK tour.

For “Hello Dolly”, which features the West End’s largest live orchestra, we provided multiple elements from our TAIT Stage Machinery™ system. All items were from our extensive inventory of reconfigurable assets, including BT2 winches and Kinesys Apex hoists. We provided motion for a 3-ton steam locomotive set piece which traverses the stage in act 1, and control of many cues for the travellator, which features in many scenes of both dialogue and dance. The giant video screen, which created dynamic upstage vistas of New York City and Yonkers, throughout the heartwarming show was suspended from the grid using an array of eight Kinesys Apex Hoists, enabling its’ smooth lifting for the show’s titular scene featuring a sweeping staircase.

Control of all axes in the stage deck, on stage, and above the stage was performed using TAIT Navigator via a Polaris console. Integration included sharing of live set tracking data for video synchronisation, achieved using PSN.
