MSC Cruises wanted a unique centerpiece for one of the performance areas of its new vessel, MSC World Europa. We devised a system of six chandeliers for the MSC World Europa cruise ship – two designed to accommodate performers – covered in Swarovski crystals and able to move independently to provide a stunning focal point for the cruise liner’s Panorama Lounge

Creating stunning kinetic scenic work for performance is one thing on dry land but another altogether at sea. Given the spatial limitations of operating complex automation in the MSC World Europa interior, our team needed to draw on our background working with MSC in the past to build this six-chandelier masterpiece, covered in around 2,000 Swarovski crystals. The chandeliers are automated using BT2 winches via our epiQ console, which runs the versatile iQ operator interface, used throughout the ship’s venues.
With performers inside the chandeliers aboard the MSC World Europa, automation needed to be reliable and repeatable, so our designers created a system of guides to keep the performers centered regardless of the chandelier’s trajectory.
MSC World Europa has over 2,700 cabins and a guest capacity of a staggering 5,400 passengers. Before beginning public operations, it had the distinction of serving as a hotel ship in Doha for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
